چکیده

A new iterative equalizer based on the classical block decision feedback equalizer is derived. The performance of this equalizer benefits from the usage of a soft decision function, which is based on noise whitening and consecutive matched filtering. The derivation of the decision function is very general and therefore applicable to arbitrary complex valued modulation symbols. After adding the possibility of processing extrinsic information to this decision function the equalizer is embedded in an iterative equalization/decoding scheme. To demonstrate the performance of the scheme simulation results for frequency selective channels using BPSK and 16 QAM are presented.

Joint Iterative Equalization, Demapping, and Decoding with a Soft Interference Canceler

High-level modulation alphabets offer an additional degree of freedom compared to the binary case, since several mappings from bits to symbols are possible. Recently, it was shown that using different mappings rather than Gray coding, a tremendous performance gain for AWGN channels can be obtained with iterative demapping and decoding. In this paper we include iterative demapping in a turbo equ...

Mapping Optimisation for turbo-equalization improved by iterative demapping

A design rule for mapping optimisation adapted to the turbo-equalization improved by iterative demapping is presented. We demonstrate that thanks to a carefully designed mapping, different to the classical Gray mapping, Bit Error Rate (BER) performance is improved for a frequency selective channel. Introduction: Turbo-equalization is a receiving process performing iteratively equalization and c...

Minimum mean squared error equalization using a priori information

A number of important advances have been made in the area of joint equalization and decoding of data transmitted over intersymbol interference (ISI) channels. Turbo equalization is an iterative approach to this problem, in which a maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) equalizer and a MAP decoder exchange soft information in the form of prior probabilities over the transmitted symbols. A number...

Improved Receivers for Digital High Frequency Communications: Iterative Channel Estimation, Equalization, and Decoding (Adaptive Turbo Equalization)

We address the problem of improving the throughput and the availability of digital communications in the High Frequency (HF, 3-30 MHz) band. In standardized military waveforms, the data is protected by an error-correcting code (ECC), and the code bits are shuffled by an interleaver and mapped onto a signal constellation for modulation onto a single carrier. Training sequences are multiplexed in...

A primer on equalization, decoding and non-iterative joint equalization and decoding

In this article, a general model for non-iterative joint equalization and decoding is systematically derived for use in systems transmitting convolutionally encoded BPSK-modulated information through a multipath channel, with and without interleaving. Optimal equalization and decoding are discussed first, by presenting the maximum likelihood sequence estimation and maximum a posteriori probabil...
